How to Send Money Across Borders With GeraCash — A Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Sending your first international transfer on GeraCash? A practical step-by-step guide from account set-up to confirming delivery on the recipient side.

Quick answer. Open a GeraCash wallet, pass the identity check, fund from your preferred rail, add the recipient's local payout details, preview the fee and exchange rate, confirm. Most first-time senders complete a transfer in under ten minutes.

Step 1: Open a Wallet

Sign up at geracash.com with your phone number and email. A standard wallet is opened immediately with basic limits. To send larger amounts you pass identity verification — upload a government ID and take a selfie. Verification typically resolves within minutes.

Step 2: Fund the Wallet

Pick the funding rail that suits you:

  • UK Faster Payments from a UK bank.
  • SEPA Instant from a European bank.
  • Visa / Mastercard.
  • Local mobile-money rails (M-Pesa, Idram, UPI, PIX) if your phone number is registered to one.

Most domestic funding is free and arrives within minutes.

Step 3: Add the Recipient

The recipient does not need a GeraCash account to receive on most rails. What you enter depends on the destination country:

  • Kenya. Recipient's M-Pesa phone number, full legal name.
  • Armenia. Recipient's Idram ID or ArCa card, full legal name.
  • India. Recipient's UPI ID or bank account + IFSC, full legal name.
  • Brazil. Recipient's PIX key (email, phone, CPF, or random key), full legal name.
  • UK / EU. Sort code + account number, or IBAN + BIC.
  • Ghana / Nigeria / Uganda. Mobile money number or local bank account.

Recipients are saved for future transfers.

Step 4: Preview the Transfer

Enter the amount. GeraCash shows you:

  • The exchange rate being applied.
  • The platform fee.
  • The exact amount the recipient will receive in their local currency.
  • The expected delivery time.

If anything about the preview surprises you, pause and check — never confirm a transfer you do not fully understand.

Step 5: Confirm

Approve with your device biometric or PIN. For larger amounts, an SMS or authenticator-app code is required. The transfer is executed immediately on the sender side; settlement time is the time it takes the destination rail to credit the recipient — measured in minutes for most local rails, up to a business day for some cross-border bank transfers.

Step 6: Confirm Delivery

You receive a confirmation push notification when the recipient's rail credits the funds. The recipient is also notified (SMS on most local rails). For the first transfer to a new recipient, check in with them to confirm the money arrived as expected.

Common Pitfalls

  • Typo in the recipient account or phone. GeraCash validates format but cannot know you intended a different person. Double-check the last two digits of every number.
  • Name mismatch. Some rails reject transfers where the recipient's legal name does not match the account. Use the full legal name, not a nickname.
  • Sanctioned countries or persons. Transfers to sanctioned destinations or persons will be blocked. This is non-negotiable.
  • Large transfers without advance verification. Upload ID before you have a time-sensitive need — do not start a verification queue when you need money to arrive the same day.

Next Step

Send a small test transfer — for example, the equivalent of £10 or $10 — to confirm the experience before trusting a larger transfer. Most users set up one or two recipients permanently and then use the app monthly.
