GeraCash in Germany 2026 — BaFin, PSD2 and Moving Money in Euro

Schnelle Antwort
GeraCash provides payment and money-movement services for consumers and businesses in Germany under EU PSD2 passporting. We operate via licensed partner institutions supervised by BaFin and the Bundesbank; consumer funds are safeguarded under §17 ZAG. Our default rails are SEPA Instant and SEPA Credit Transfer, with PayPal, Klarna and cards layered on top.
Germany is a SEPA-first payments country. Direct bank transfers still dominate high-value consumer payments, card acceptance lags the UK/US, and regulators are unusually strict about who can touch customer money. Any credible fintech in Germany works inside that reality, not against it.
The German regulatory stack
- BaFin (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht) — federal financial supervisor. Payment and e-money activity requires BaFin authorisation under KWG or passporting under PSD2.
- Bundesbank — joint-supervised with BaFin for significant institutions.
- ZAG (Zahlungsdiensteaufsichtsgesetz) — German PSD2 transposition; §17 ZAG safeguarding is the rule for customer funds.
- GwG (Geldwäschegesetz) — AML: KYC/KYB, PEP & sanctions screening, Transparenzregister checks for businesses.
- DSGVO + BDSG — EU-resident data processing for all customer PII.
- PSD2 SCA — Strong Customer Authentication on every transaction above thresholds; dynamic 3DS2 for cards.

Payment rails for Germany
SEPA Instant (target D+0) and SEPA Credit Transfer are the default. PayPal and Klarna sit on top for e-commerce. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported. giropay is supported where customer banks still enable it. Cards (Visa, Mastercard) are supported but we bias UX toward SEPA/PayPal.
Honest comparison with German alternatives
- N26 — Berlin-headquartered, BaFin-supervised neobank; strong consumer UX, historically slow on business accounts.
- Tomorrow — Hamburg-HQ sustainability-focused neobank; white-labelled on Solaris.
- Wise — strong on FX, weaker on German-domestic banking features.
- Revolut — German branch via Lithuanian licence; broad feature set.
- GeraCash — multi-currency, cross-product settlement for GeraMarket / GeraRide / GeraClinic earnings in Germany, SEPA-first by default, GwG-compliant onboarding.
Real German use case — a Berlin freelancer
A Berlin-based independent designer invoices clients in Germany (SEPA), the UK (SWIFT in GBP) and the US (SWIFT in USD). GeraCash converts incoming USD/GBP at EZB-Mittelkurs + 0.5%, settles in EUR to the Finanzamt-compliant Geschäftskonto, and the monthly USt-Voranmeldung is exportable as DATEV-CSV.
